Even royals aren’t immune to binge-watching Netflix during the lockdown, it seems. Sarah Ferguson revealed that not only has she watched Bridgerton twice, but also loved how her wedding was portrayed in the latest season of The Crown and is ready to set up a meeting with Shonda Rhimes to talk about adapting her new book, Her Heart for a Compass, for TV.
“I adored Bridgerton so much that I watched it twice, deliberately,” the royal confessed to Us Weekly. “I’m obsessed with it. I think Daphne is a terrific character, as we see her learning about life. I love the way she learns to use her strong voice. It chimed with me because now is the time for women to speak up. The costumes and set designs were incredible too. The way Betsy Beers and Shonda Rhimes have created Bridgerton is fabulous, and I was really impressed.” She added that she also has a personal connection to the show as, “I hear they might be making future series at Sunninghill Park for the next five years, which is my old home.”
Bridgerton isn’t the only Netflix series Ferguson has a personal connection to—the Duchess of York has apparently also caught up on the most recent season of The Crown. She told the outlet, “I thought it was filmed beautifully. The cinematography was excellent. I loved the way they put my wedding in as well.” And it seems the royal isn’t content to just stream all these shows, she’s ready to start making them herself. After completing her debut novel, Ferguson said, “I definitely will be talking to Shondaland about making Her Heart for a Compass into a TV series.”
She’s also excited to become a “fantastic” grandmother as her daughter Princess Eugenie is expected to give birth to her first child any day now. “Having not had my own mother around, I’ve always been determined to be a very present mother with my children, and I know Eugenie will be the same with hers,” the Duchess said. “She is incredibly empathetic and will be a great mother. She is a very strong and determined person, always looking for the truth in all she does.”
