Kacey Musgraves has turned Ted Cruz‘s overnight trip to Cancún amid a massive national disaster into a way to raise money for Texans in need.
After facing massive public outrage, the senator was forced to return home alone from a family trip to Cancun this week less than twenty-four hours after departing, telling Recount upon his arrival, “Whether the decision to go was tone-deaf—look, it was obviously a mistake.” A mistake that, thanks to Musgraves, can also do some good.
The country singer jokingly tweeted on Thursday afternoon, “*makes ‘CRUZIN FOR A BRUZIN’ tees *donates profits to Texans in need,” before adding an hour later, “Link coming soon. Don’t RUN OFF anywhere…” She then posted a link to her merch store where fans can pre-order the charitable t-shirt with the caption, “Texas is cold, I can be cold,” a play on the lyrics from her song “Slow Burn.” Musgraves added, “All proceeds will directly support Texans affected by the storm and also to homeless immigrants seeking shelter and food. Available thru Sunday!” According to the website, all proceeds from orders of the top will go to Feed The People Dallas, Casa Marianella, and the American Red Cross of Central & South Texas. As of Friday morning, the musician confirmed she’d already raised $50,000. “Life gave us lemons and I’m honestly just here innocently serving lemonade,” Musgraves tweeted.
