After dropping vague hints for the past few days, JoJo Siwa has all but confirmed that she’s gay.
The 17-year-old star shared a photo to social media of a shirt gifted to her by her cousin, which reads “Best Gay Cousin Ever”.
Siwa sparked speculation around her sexuality earlier this week when she uploaded a video of her singing along to Lady Gaga’s LGBT anthem ‘Born This Way’ while wearing a jumper and hair bow with rainbow hearts. She mouthed the words, “No matter gay, straight or bi, lesbian transgender life / I’m on the right track baby, I was born to survive.”
Her friend beauty guru James Charles replied to the video with: “IM SO HAPPY FOR YOU.”
She then filmed a video at the LA Pride House with other young queer TikTok creators, with the caption “Now you’re one of us…”.
Eagle-eyed fans have noticed that she has recently been wearing a bracelet to signify that she’s in a relationship, and her close female friend has been wearing the same one.
Siwa also replied to a TikTok about her being gay with a love heart emoji.
Fans have been commending Siwa for her courage in coming out, especially because she has a lot of impressionable young fans.
“This feels like a big deal if it is what I think it is,” one person wrote on Twitter. “JoJo Siwa is hugely popular with kids. And as someone just pointed out, if it is what I think it is, she’s doing it at the height of her fame when she’s selling out arenas.”
“Do you even understand how major it is for Jojo Siwa to come out?” another wrote. “She’s 17. Her products outsold Star Wars last Christmas.”
Last year, the former Dance Moms star was included on TIME magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2020 list.
Kim Kardashian wrote the official tribute to Siwa, whom she called a “ray of sunshine in a world that seems scary right now.”
“She’s a great role model for children, and her optimism is more necessary now than ever,” Kardashian wrote.
