Joshua Basset was hospitalised on Friday with “the worst pain of my life” on the same day his single ‘Lie Lie Lie’ was released.
The 20-year old star of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series shared the new by posting a video to his Instagram of himself lying in a hospital bed, and quickly reassured fans that he doesn’t have COVID.
“Welp … not the first place I assumed I’d be on my ‘Lie, Lie, Lie release day … the ER!! (before you ask, not it’s not covid),” he captioned the video.
“After an unknown, uncomfortable feeling turned into times 10, the worst pain of my life, I figured I’d just try to sleep. After multiple, very, very ugly days and nights, I had no choice today but be taken to the hospital,” Bassett captioned the clip, revealing that he “had my first surgery.”
Bassett didn’t say what he was being treated for, but said his doctor told him he was officially “‘the sickest patient in the hospital.'”
Earlier that day, his song ‘Lie, Lie, Lie’ was released — a highly anticipated track in light of his relationship with Olivia Rodrigo making headlines last week.
Rodrigo dropped her song ‘Drivers Licence’ — which broke Spotify records for the most-streamed track in a single day — with lyrics telling the story of her former relationship with Bassett.
The HSMTMTS co-stars were dating until they broke up last year. In ‘Driver’s Licence’, in 17-year-old sings about a lover who moves on with a mystery blonde — many fans speculate this blonde is singer Sabrina Carpenter.
A week after ‘Driver’s License’ was released, Bassett dropped ‘Lie, Lie, Lie’ which is ostensibly about his side of the story.
Their respective diss tracks will likely cause tension on the set of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, which was recently renewed for Season 2. At the end of Season 1, their characters Ricky and Nini are together, so only time will tell how this new development will play out.
