The husband of reality TV star Braunwyn Windham-Burke has broken his silence on TV months after his wife came out as gay.
Sean Burke shared his feelings publicly for the first time as he appeared with Braunwyn on the reunion show of her reality TV program The Real Housewives of Orange County.
When host Andy Cohen asked the businessman what his reaction was when Braunwyn — his wife of 20 years — told him she was a lesbian, Sean answered honestly.
“In some ways it was a relief,” he replied in the episode, which aired yesterday in the US. “Because the elephant in the room is, this isn’t something we can’t fix. She’s attracted to women.”
Braunwyn said it breaks her heart to say she has “never been attracted to men physically”, with Sean admitting that it “absolutely” hurt him to hear that.
“It has taken me 42 years to say that, but I’m so proud of where I am right now and I’m so happy where I am,” she said at the time. “To be able to be comfortable in my own skin after so long is just so nice.”
For now, the couple is choosing to remain married and living under the same roof with their seven children Bella, 20, Rowan, 18, Jacob, 15, twins Caden and Curran, seven, Koa, 4, and Hazel, two.
And while their older kids know about their current situation, the couple revealed in the RHOC reunion show that they have yet to explain it to their younger children.
“I hope we can find a way to make this work so that we’re all happy,” said Braunwyn, who is currently dating another woman while still married to Sean. “I hope we can stay living together. I hope we can say being parents, co-parents.
“I hope that we can maintain a good decent structure for our kids so they can actually have something healthy and see something different. And what is the next thing? I’m not sure but right now this is better, so we’re just taking those steps to see where it goes.”
