After an almost yearlong, whirlwind romance that sparked numerous engagement and cohabitation rumors and kept the paparazzi very busy throughout the pandemic, Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas have reportedly called it quits.
But while BenAna’s breakup may seem sudden, it was apparently “mutual and something that is completely amicable,” according to a source who spoke with People. The pair, who reportedly broke up over the phone, “have had numerous discussions about their future and they decided together to break up.” They added that while Affleck and de Armas “are in different points in their lives there is deep love and respect there.”
A different source “close to the couple” who spoke with Page Six seconded this perspective that the Deep Water costars are simply in “different places.” Namely, Affleck “would not commit to having more kids,” whereas de Armas “is in her 30s. It was a deal-breaker.” Affleck already has three children of his own with ex-wife Jennifer Garner, 14-year-old Violet, 11-year-old Seraphina, and 8-year-old Samuel. The source continued, “Ben is not in a place to start a new family. Both he and Ana have three jobs lined up. His family has, and will continue, to be his focus.”
But despite their differing visions of the future, “There is a lot of love still between the two of them…The split is as amicable as can be. Ana is great, but I also think there’s something to be said for the fact that Ben has a family and he really wants to be there for his kids and Ana is in a different place in her life.” Given that the pair were reportedly living in Affleck’s $20 million “dad pad” together right before their breakup, it should come as no surprise that de Armas is currently on the hunt for a new place to live. Additional sources told Page Six that the actress has been house-hunting in West Hollywood, “on the opposite side of town from Ben.”
All reports point to the couple’s split being cordial, but apparently, friends don’t believe Affleck and de Armas are done for good just yet. “They could get back together,” the source said. “They are in love. People who know them believe it’s temporary.” Although stuffing a lifesize cardboard cutout of your ex-girlfriend in the trash definitely doesn’t seem temporary.
