Alex Rodriguez Goes From Hanging Out With the Obamas to Getting Dragged Into in Reality-Television Drama

You may not have heard of Madison LeCroy or realize that Southern Charm is still on Bravo, but she is currently responsible for 100% of the reality show’s recent mentions on the internet. Up until this week, LeCroy was best known for two things: spreading an STD rumor about another member of the SC cast and appearing to have hooked up with Jay Cutler, football MAGA guy and estranged husband of Kristin Cavallari. (LeCroy’s ex-boyfriend Austin Kroll also hung out with Cavallari in December, apparently in an alternate universe where the pandemic is not happening.) She spoke about all of this and more on the show’s reunion episode, hosted by human truth serum Andy Cohen, which airs in two parts, first on January 28 and tonight, February 4.

The “more” of it all has taken she and her show’s name recognition to new heights: a rumor, spread amongst the cast, that she hooked up with, in Cohen’s words, “a very famous married ex-MLB player.” They said his name on part one of the reunion but bleeped it out, and eventually, the rumor came out: Cohen was referring to Alex Rodriguez, who is engaged to but not married to Jennifer Lopez, the “‘Let’s Get Loud‘ in the middle of ’America the Beautiful‘” singer.

Much like in her claims about Cutler, LeCroy said on the show that she talked to Rodriguez but nothing actually happened. Specifically, she said they shared a phone call or calls, or rather talked “randomly” about a year ago, but not “consistent[ly]” and all communication was “innocent.” She’s “never seen him or touched him.” Rodriguez, for his part, went out to lunch with Lopez this week in Miami, and has not commented on any of this.

However, where there are tight-lipped celebrities, there are always nameless, faceless commentators. A Page Six “insider” told the tabloid, “He doesn’t know this woman. Look, does this mean he didn’t DM her and liked a photo or two? I guess not, but he doesn’t know her—and he definitely didn’t hook up with her.”

It’s not as though Rodriguez is above trying to woo a reality star. He went out “twice” with Bethenny Frankel of Real Housewives of New York in 2009. And he’s not a stranger to out-of-nowhere hookup gossip, either: In 2008, Madonna had to shut down rumors that they were a thing.

It’s actually tough to find a through line in Rodriguez’s romantic past, except that since his first marriage ended in 2008, he’s been linked to women who are famous broadly or well-known in a niche way. He has dated Kate Hudson and Cameron Diaz. He’s dated a wrestling star, Torrie Wilson, for several years, and even dated tech CEO Anne Wojcicki, escorting her to the Met gala in 2016.

But it’s really something else to go from hanging out with the Obamas, thanks entirely to one’s fiancé, to these reality TV dramatics just weeks later.
