10 Actors Who Are Friends And 18 Who Are Enemies

“If you don’t marry her, I will.”

Let’s be honest, work-related feuds are common, and they can get real spicy when you have to pretend to like someone for a living.

Netflix

I mean, Bette Davis and Joan Crawford’s feud was so feisty, they made a TV series out of it!

On the other hand, when you strike up a friendship with someone at work, it can sometimes lead to the tightest of bonds!

Here are 10 actors who became best buddies after meeting in this business we call show, and nine who completely fell out after working together.

1.

Let’s start off friendly, with great chums Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston!

Universal Pictures

From Friends to friends, these two have been great mates since their time on set together for The Object of My Affection in 1998, and they even briefly dated. Their bond has remained tight after breaking up, with Jennifer recently bigging up her pal after his Sexiest Man Alive win last year. In a post on her Instagram story Jen wrote “This makes me so happy, we’ve always known this, but Paul Rudd is officially people’s Sexiest Man Alive!”

2.

On a more sour note, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Vin Diesel are apparently NOT the biggest fans of each other.

Universal Pictures

Vin Diesel has spoken about the origins of this beef, which he believes began when he gave Dwayne some “tough love” on the set of Fast Five regarding his performance. Since then, much has been made of their ongoing feud, which peaked in 2016 with Dwayne calling all the male members of the Fast and the Furious franchise “candy asses”.

Vin attempted to reconcile things at the end of 2021 with an Instagram post that read “My little brother Dwayne… the time has come. The world awaits the finale of Fast 10.” However, Johnson was having none of it, and responded by saying the post was an example of Vin’s “manipulation.” Who knows if they’ll ever find common ground, but by the looks of things, their resolution won’t be ~fast~.

3.

Back to pals – Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone are true BFFs!

These two super ladies are also apparently great friends, and their chemistry is undeniable. Their friendship began via text, with Jennifer saying “I feel like it was our version of The Notebook – 365 texts.” Since then, they’ve become “family”, with Emma referring to Jennifer in a conversation with Elle, “You realize that your friendships, the people who go with you into these next phases of your life — you’re choosing your family.”

4.

It seems Magic Mike actor Channing Tatum wasn’t a fan of his co-star Alex Pettyfer.

Warner Bros. Pictures

The root of Channing’s dislike of Alex stem from Alex not paying for an apartment he was renting off Channing’s friend in New York. According to Alex, Channing sent him an email which read, “Don’t fuck my friends. You owe money. Pay the fucking money. Don’t be a clown”. This caused tension on set, with Alex reporting that Channing had “already told” everyone he didn’t like him.

5.

Channing Tatum didn’t have the same problem with Jonah Hill though – they became best buds!

Columbia Pictures

Not only are Jenko and Schmidt best friends in 21 Jump Street, but they are super tight off the screen too. When the actors finally got the chance to reunite, Channing said, it’s “like hanging out with friends”. As you can imagine, being on set with these two involved a fair amount of ribbing. Channing recalls walking into a locked door and being unable to film for 45 minutes because Jonah and the rest of the cast and crew were making fun of him.

6.

However, there was next-to-no love between The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air stars Will Smith and Janet Hubert.

NBC

This 27-year-old feud was undoubtedly a nasty one. Will believes that Janet’s dislike of him stemmed from him being the star of the show, and Janet wanting in on the action. Meanwhile, Janet accused Will of making disrespectful comments about her to the audience and ruining her career.

Allegedly, some ~horrible~ things were said by both parties, and Janet eventually left The Fresh Prince with very hard feelings. Thankfully, the pair eventually hugged it out and put everything behind them when Janet and Will appeared on Red Table Talk in 2020, but their quarrel is certainly one of the longest in the business!

7.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire have been friends for decades.

Noel Vasquez / Via Getty Images

These two old sports became buds when they were child actors, and have gone on to work together on three movies including The Great Gatsby, This Boy’s Life, and Don’s Plum. During the ’90s, they were both part of a celebrity entourage known as “The Pussy Posse” who moved around Hollywood “spraying champagne in nightclubs and bedding models”.

8.

On the other hand, Tommy Lee Jones did NOT have a good time working with Jim Carrey.

Warner Bros.

During the filming of Batman Forever – in which the pair played The Riddler and Two-Face – it seems that Tommy couldn’t deal with Jim’s behaviour on set. According to Jim, Tommy spotted him in a restaurant during the production of the movie and came straight out with what he thought of him. Allegedly Tommy said he hated his colleague, and could not “sanction [his] buffoonery.”

9.

One of the most wholesome celebrity friendships EVER is Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen’s.

The pair became mates during the filming of X-Men, in which they played adversaries. Off screen they spent a lot of time together “drinking tea — and maybe in the afternoon, something a little stronger.” Since then, they’ve enjoyed a wonderful friendship, and Ian even officiated Patrick’s wedding to Sunny Ozell in 2013.

10.

Sometimes romantic relationships can create feuds, as in the case of Jerome Flynn and Lena Headey.

HBO

The pair met whilst working on the ITV drama Soldier, Soldier in the ’90s, and were reportedly together as late as 2002. Their breakup ended with them “not on speaking terms“, an issue that must’ve caused quite the headache for Game of Thrones writers. Viewers noted that their characters were never in the same scene, and this demand was apparently even written into their contracts!

11.

Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy have a beautiful bromance going on.

Jonathan Brady/PA Images / Via Getty Images

Wait, another Magneto and Professor X friendship?!? There must be something with those characters! You’ll always find Michael and James teasing, pranking, and laughing with each other on set, in interviews, and on the red carpet. From their excellent reactions viewing some raunchy fan art, to them simply professing their love for one another, their bond is def one of the most wholesome around.

12.

However, Sylvester Stallone and Richard Gere almost had a ‘fist-fight’ over Princess Dianna… And a Gerbil.

Images Press / Getty Images, Hulton Deutsch / Corbis via Getty Images

Here’s another feud that spans decades! Tensions between these two began on the set of The Lords of Flatbush, and apparently spilled over (literally) when Richard spilled mustard on Stallone in the back of his Toyota. Sylvester has previously said that Richard “seriously doesn’t like” him, and apparently, he attributes the spread of *that* gerbil rumour to the Rocky star.

To add to things, at a dinner party with Princess Diana, Elton John recalls Sylvester glaring at Richard who had hit it off with the Princess of Wales. Elton also claimed that he later found them outside squaring up to one another.

13.

Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston are ‘brothers from another mother’ on screen and off.

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

Since filming the first of their many films together as brothers Thor and Loki, the pair have become each other’s biggest fans. On playing brotherly enemies, Chris has said, “It’s much easier to hate someone on screen if you actually like them off-screen.” Tom supported this by saying “It’s quite literally a bromance”.

14.

Freddie Prinze Jr. couldn’t stand working with Kiefer Sutherland.

Fox

When Freddie joined the cast of 24 in 2010, he apparently found working with Kiefer unbearable. His experience was so bad that he said it made him want to “quit the business” altogether. When asked why he took umbrage at Kiefer, Freddie said he was “the most unprofessional dude in the world.” Thankfully Freddie decided against quitting!

15.

Sandra Bullock and George Clooney have been chums for over three decades.

Michael Tran / Via Getty Images

Despite only starring in one film together, the Gravity co-stars have been good friends since they were baby actors attempting to make a living. George has high praise for his “dear friend”, and has actually acted as her wingman before, leading to a four-year relationship. His opener? “If you don’t marry her, I will.”

16.

Bill Murray reportedly was “hurling insults” at Lucy Liu during the filming of Charlie’s Angels.

Sony Pictures Releasing

Bill did not return for the 2003 sequel to Charlie’s Angels, and you could say it was down to an altercation with Lucy Liu during the making of the 2000 film. According to Lucy, Bill was shouting insults at her on set, and his language was “inexcusable and unacceptable”. Lucy didn’t take the abuse lying down, and since then, co-star Drew Barrymore has backed Lucy by saying she was right not to just sit there and take it.

17.

Salma Hayek and Penélope Cruz are “like sisters”.

Kevork Djansezian / Via Getty Images

When Penélope first arrived in Hollywood, Salma actually met her at the airport despite having only spoken to her over the phone before. Penélope has recalled the Mexican-American actor saying to her, “you’re not going to a hotel, you’re coming to my house because this is hard at the beginning and you’re going to feel very lonely.” They’ve been BFFs ever since and starred in the 2006 film Bandidas together.

18.

Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley “despised each other” whilst filming part of The Vampire Diaries.

The CW

Despite dating on-screen, the pair did not get on off-screen! Paul has even said they were really “getting on each other’s nerves” over the first few years of filming The Vampire Diaries. Nina has also commented on having good chemistry with Paul, saying she believed it was because they disliked each other so much and “it read as love.”

Thankfully this feud didn’t last longer than the first few seasons, with Paul clarifying that their bad feelings eventually developed into a “wonderful friendship”.

19.

Zach Braff and Donald Fierson have a podcast together and are best bros IRL.

NBC / ABC

One of the best TV bromances ever has amazingly become a real-life one too! Donald Fierson had his wedding reception at Zach Braff’s house, and of course Zach was his best man!  Their podcast, Fake Doctors, Real Friends with Zach and Donald, goes over an episode of Scrubs one week at a time.

20.

Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams did NOT get on during filming of The Notebook.

New Line Cinema

Even though they would go on to date, the two were apparently at each other’s throats on the set of The NotebookDirector Nick Cassavetes once recounted one particularly awkward moment during filming when Ryan requested he bring in another actor to read off camera with him. “I can’t do it with her”, Ryan allegedly said, “I’m just not getting anything from this.”

21.

Finally, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have been friends since they were kids!

Miramax Films

This is one of the most famous and productive actor friendships in existence. Matt and Ben have written and starred in several films together over their decades-long friendship. What’s especially cute about them as friends is that their mums introduced them to each other when they were just eight and 10 years old!

Ben even jumped in to prevent Matt from being beaten up by a bigger kid in high school, which Matt has said was a “big moment” for their friendship. After blowing all their money from their first roles together in School Ties, the pair lived together and wrote the screenplay for Good Will Hunting – that’s a lot of talent in one friendship!

Don’t forget to add your fave actor friendships and/or feuds in the comments below!
